At Samarthini Foundation, we empower rural women to overcome societal barriers and unlock their potential through mentorship, skill development, and access to essential resources. By connecting women with mentors who guide and inspire them, we provide tailored support to help them achieve their career goals. We offer workshops on digital skills, resume building, and financial literacy, while also ensuring access to technology and opportunities for professional growth. Through community advocacy and peer-led initiatives, we inspire families and communities to support women’s ambitions. Together, we help women transform their lives, build meaningful careers, and create a ripple effect of change in their communities.
Our Story
Samarthini Foundation began with a deeply personal journey—one rooted in my admiration for my mother’s resilience and untapped potential. Growing up in a rural community, I witnessed my mother’s quiet longing for a career. Despite holding a graduate degree in education—a remarkable achievement for her background—societal norms and family obligations confined her to being a stay-at-home mom.
My mother had an extraordinary talent for teaching. She would tutor children of relatives and neighbors, inspiring curiosity and a love for learning in even the most reluctant students. Yet, her abilities went unrecognized. During the COVID-19 pandemic, I suggested she explore teaching professionally on online platforms. At first, she laughed and said, “What do I know about teaching professionally? I’ve only taught kids around the house.” But as she researched more, her hesitation turned into cautious hope.
One evening, she confided in me, tears streaming down her face: “It’s too late for me. My time has passed. I’m just a mother who missed her chance.” Her words broke my heart. I couldn’t let her believe that about herself.
Determined to show her the impact she had already made, I reached out to her former students, family members, and even my professors who had seen videos of her teaching. The responses were overwhelming—messages filled with gratitude and admiration. From these, I handwrote 137 notes, each one a testament to her influence.
On Mother’s Day, I presented her with a jar filled with these notes. As she opened it and began reading, disbelief turned to tears. She read aloud, “You inspired me to love learning.” Another said, “Your guidance changed my life.” And yet another: “You made me believe I could achieve anything.” With her hands full of notes and tears streaming down her face, she whispered, “Do they really mean this? Did I really do all this?”
I looked at her and said, “Yes, Mom. This is who you are. It’s not too late—it never was.”
Within two weeks, she joined an online teaching platform. A year later, she was celebrated as one of its top ten educators. Her transformation was the spark that inspired me to start Samarthini Foundation.
I realized that countless women in rural communities, like my mother, possess immense talent but are held back by societal norms and self-doubt. Samarthini Foundation was created to bridge this gap, connecting women with mentors, resources, and opportunities to thrive.
Today, the foundation is a testament to the power of belief and resilience. It serves as a beacon of hope, empowering women to rewrite their stories and create brighter futures—not just for themselves, but for their entire communities.
